Notes
Load weight markings record the maximum weight the wagon is to carry. These were usually painted on the side of the wagon body, generally near the bottom edge. However, they were sometimes painted on the solebar instead, particularly for tank and hopper wagons. The weight was usually given in whole tons, indicated by a "T" or "TONS" in full, after the value, sometimes using small or raised letters. The "LOAD" label was sometimes omitted, especially in later years.
These decals are intended to represent the solebar type of markings, in either 1- or 2- line formats, and a selection of common fonts. The 1-line form could also be used for bodyside decals with a suitable choice of background colour option. The 1-line form are shown with a letter height of 3in, while the 2-line form uses 2.5in letters. You are welcome to override these sizes when configuring your decal back on the main page.
To help you choose the font that best matches your requirements, the full range of appropriate characters is shown below. Click on the image to open a larger view in a separate browser tab or window.
Most of the fonts have alternate forms for certain characters; you will be able to specify these when configuring your decal.
