Notes

From the 1920s the Railway Clearing House introduced special schemes for collecting the charges levied by the railway companies on private owners for moving their wagons. The schemes were known as "Commuted Charge". Wagons participating in the schemes were identified by a double-C label on their sides. This label was often accompanied by a star label which identified a particular type of scheme. The star label could be used without a background where the wagon was of a suitably dark colour, otherwise either a circle or square black background was used.
